About Brevard Clay’s Art Gallery
Brevard Clay is an art studio and gallery located in the heart of beautiful downtown Brevard, North Carolina. We are the area’s only paint-your-own-pottery studio and the only art gallery in downtown Brevard to focus specifically on ceramic work. We pride ourselves on our friendly studio staff who help facilitate delightful paint-your-own-pottery experiences for our guests. Several times a week, local ceramic artists throw pottery live on the potter’s wheel in the store, providing guests the opportunity to see pottery being made and interact with a working artist.
Excellent Location
Brevard Clay offers artists an excellent location to display their work. Our store is in the heart of Brevard, nestled among dozens of tourist-friendly shops and restaurants. Locals and tourists alike enjoy visiting Brevard Clay because of its small-town charm, creative atmosphere, and affordable arts and crafts.
Consignment Terms
There are no fees to begin selling your work on consignment at Brevard Clay. Our consignment fee is 40%; artists receive 60% of their work’s retail price. Artists are paid once a month for the previous month’s sales.
Exclusivity Not Required
We do not require artists to sell their work “exclusively” at Brevard Clay. If artists also sell their work in nearby galleries, we ask that the artwork prices be consistent among all sales venues.
Artist Promotion
Brevard Clay works with artists to create an Artist Profile for our website, social media channels, monthly newsletters, and in-studio promotions. Our staff are trained to promote your work to our guests by speaking knowledgeably about the pottery process and the artists we represent.
Who We Represent
Brevard Clay represents local and regional artists within roughly 50 miles of Transylvania County, NC. Our gallery focuses on functional pottery in the $10-$150 dollar range, but we also accept artists working in other mediums such as painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, jewelry, woodworking, etc.
We are looking for active, practicing emerging and professional artists who regularly produce well-crafted, yet affordable work. Artists must demonstrate a unique and distinctive style, with mature design, technical skills, and craftsmanship. Artists seeking to consign must be able to provide Brevard Clay with enough work to “fill” a display space in our gallery. This is a subjective measure, based on the size, complexity, and quantity of work. As a general guideline, we prefer 8 - 12 large and/or complex works, or 12 - 24 small and/or simple works to “fill” a display.
We encourage emerging artists to apply (including those who have never been represented by a gallery before) so long as their work has breadth and superior quality.
Family Friendly Gallery
Please keep in mind that Brevard Clay is a very family-friendly establishment and many of our guests are children. While we try our best to prevent damage and breakage to work in our gallery, the nature of pottery and families together can cause damage to an artist's work from time to time. If your work is very delicate and expensive, Brevard Clay may not be the best place to show your work. (Read more about our policies regarding work that gets broken while on consignment.)
